Computing
Intent
At Langwith Bassett Junior Academy we want all children to be able to learn the skills that are now acquired in the modern technological world. We want computing to be exciting to pupils and allow them to learn new skills and explore different programmes and apps that they may have not used before.
Computing is essential in all aspects of everyday life, including independent learning and in both education and employment. Computing is a very inclusive subject, and we want pupils from all backgrounds and those pupils with SEND to be able to access and learn from all computing lessons.
Computing is a cross-curricular subject, and we want our lessons to provide links to other subjects, including maths, science and design and technology.
Implementation
All pupils will have a weekly computing lesson. In EYFS computing is taught using the barefoot computing curriculum. In KS1 and 2 computing is taught using the NCCE national centre for computing education curriculum. Key computing skills are repeated year-on-year to ensure children have a secure understanding of key computing skills.
Four main units are repeated throughout KS1 and 2
- Computing systems and networks
-Creating media
-Programming
-Data and information
All pupils will have the opportunity to take part in a computing after-school club. This will allow them to embed skills they have learnt in lessons further and develop a love of computing.
Impact
We will know that our lessons have a positive impact when pupils are engaged well in their computing lessons and are keen to try out new ideas. Ongoing teacher assessment will allow teachers to quickly address any misconceptions and see which pupils need to be supported or challenged further. Summative assessment through quizzes will be used in KS2 to allow class teachers to see which skills need to be embedded further.
